The american lighting association recommends the following guidelines for room and ceiling fan size. They can range in size from 14 inches to 72 inches wide. Ceiling fan blades range from 29 inches to 54 inches. Recommended fan width based on the length of the longest wall in your room.

However the right fan will depend on the size square footage and height of your room. 144 to 225 square foot rooms will need 44 54 inch blade spans and finally 225 to 400 square foot rooms will need a blade span between 50 and 72 inches.

You will need to check the floor to ceiling height of the blades. Make sure you take into account the distance that the fan hangs from the ceiling. The ideal fan height from floor to fan blades is approximately 8 feet.
