Remove Garbage Disposal Drain Flange

Turn off the power and water then unplug the disposal.

Remove garbage disposal drain flange.

Remove the flange from above the sink drain and any old plumber s putty. Remove the garbage disposal. If the flange sticks grip the lower end of the flange with adjustable pliers and rotate the flange one quarter turn to unseat the plumber s putty tip. Before you remove the disposal flange you must first release the weight of the garbage disposal from it.

Position a bucket under the pipes before detaching them to prevent spills. Pour some hot water in the bowl. All you need for cleaning a garbage disposal rubber flange is an old toothbrush dishwashing gloves dish soap and a bowl. To remove the snap ring insert a flat head screwdriver under the ring to pry it open and off the flange.

Make sure to hold the underside of the garbage disposal with your hand while removing. There may be water in the hose so keep a tub or bucket handy to keep things neat. Unthread the nuts and pull the trap straight down to remove it. Use a putty knife to clean.

Place a bucket or other container under the drain trap to catch water that drains from the pipes. Some models will unscrew from the sink drain while others might have a snap ring. You will then be able to push the sink drain portion up through the sink for removal. Use a pipe wrench to carefully loosen then remove the nut securing the drain flange.

Use pliers to loosen the slip nut at each end of the trap bend. The three retaining screws are removed and the disposal unit lowered to the bottom of the cabinet before any work on the flange should begin. This will lighten the load on the part as you work on it. Your garbage disposal is also connected to a drainpipe.

You can undo this by using pliers to loosen the nuts making the connection. A drainpipe or garbage disposal attach at the lower end of the flange. Unplug the garbage disposal from the wall outlet. By loosening the clamp on the hose you can get enough leverage to remove the hose from the disposal.

Disconnect the garbage disposal. Once you have all these things simply follow the given instructions to get rid of that irritating stench.
