Turn off the power and water then unplug the disposal.
Remove garbage disposal drain flange.
Remove the flange from above the sink drain and any old plumber s putty.
Remove the garbage disposal.
If the flange sticks grip the lower end of the flange with adjustable pliers and rotate the flange one quarter turn to unseat the plumber s putty tip.
Before you remove the disposal flange you must first release the weight of the garbage disposal from it.
Position a bucket under the pipes before detaching them to prevent spills.
Pour some hot water in the bowl.

To remove the snap ring insert a flat head screwdriver under the ring to pry it open and off the flange.
